Foundation Class ~ 12 total contact hours weekend format: 10am-5pm Saturday and Sunday

This is the beginning level class. Participants will leave knowing how to start, grow, harvest, dry/cure and store their own medicine. We will address small indoor soil systems but have a focus on outdoor organic practices. The Foundation class will be divided into the following topics/hours:

~ History, Law and Activism - 2 contact hours:

We will bring in expert speakers and activists who will provide a historical and political context for the current dynamic state of the law. This class will cover the following:

~ The ancient history of Cannabis for medicine, religion and recreational use
~ Cannabis as an inspiration to Western writers, artists and other leaders
~ The origins of California's laws against marijuana and the U.S. prohibition on the hemp plant
~ The Cannabis law reform movement from the 1970s to the present
~ The current state of medical and recreational marijuana law in California, including key court cases, the pending ballot initiative and legislation
~ How to be an active participant in the movement to legalize marijuana and work for patients' rights

~ Health ~ 4 contact hours:

Class will cover benefits and contraindications of cannabis, including:

~ Some specific conditions which are helped by cannabis
~ Which parts of the plant contain the cannabanoids specific to those conditions
~ The most effective method of delivery (ingesting, smoking, salve etc.) for a specific condition or benefit
~ Dosage
~ Conditions which may be made worse by cannabis use (contraindications)
~ Negative reactions such as allergy and anxiety

~ Horticulture ~ 6 contact hours:

This will provide the student all the pertinent knowledge one needs to produce high-quality Cannabis in sufficient quantity for the individual's specific conditions and medical needs. Main topics will cover:

Botany Basics of Cannabis, General Site Location, Materials Needed, Your Local Environment and Discussions of the Various Strains

Growing...
Basic Tips on Germination, Seedlings, and Juvenile Plants
Materials Needed, Using the phases of the Moon, Inspection, Feeding, Pest Prevention, Temperature and Lighting Requirements, Basic Maintenance

Seminar Series

More advanced 2-4 hour lectures with Q & A time for the experienced gardener. These classes will be offered weekday evenings and weekend afternoons. Some lectures may have hands on companion labs which may be taken separately. There will be details on content as these classes are finalized. Contact us if you have a specific class request.
